“Ocean to Table” Restaurant Agreement First of its kind

NEWS RELEASE

For Immediate Release

(GLOUCESTER, Mass.) March 7, 2016 — Today the city of Gloucester announced that Ninety Nine Restaurant & Pub will source local seafood to all 105 of its New England restaurants. Gloucester Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken made the announcement at the Gloucester House Restaurant during an Innovate Gloucester economic development tour with an international delegation.

As part of the initiative, Ninety Nine Restaurant & Pub will serve Gloucester seafood on its spring seasonal menu in all of its locations. The scope of this arrangement will have a direct positive economic impact on the city and support its ongoing “ocean to table” efforts, as well as directly benefit the thousands of employees in the Gloucester seafood industry.

“The city of Gloucester would like to thank the Ninety Nine Restaurant & Pub for this new business opportunity for the Gloucester seafood industry. This relationship between our city and the Ninety Nine Restaurant & Pub would not have happened if not for the strength of Gloucester seafood and its world-renowned products,” said Mayor Theken.

“The Ninety Nine Restaurant & Pub is based here in Massachusetts and as part of our culture, we strive to build local partnerships with communities across the region. We see today’s announcement, and our decision to contract with Gloucester Seafood, as a smart way to support our efforts to offer healthy, fresh, local options to our guests,” said President Charlie Noyes. “We are proud to support the local economy and offer Gloucester seafood to our guests given its strong reputation in the marketplace.”

The news follows a series of economic development wins for the city. Recently, Gloucester received a White House Rural Council award to support sustainable fishing and economic development. Gloucester was one of 28 communities and the only community in New England to receive the recognition. On February 22, Gloucester launched its #GloucesterFresh campaign to promote its seafood industry. The campaign will utilize digital billboards and a new website to connect industry directly with consumers and businesses. Gloucester continues to be proactive in connecting all local industries, such as the art community and fine dining establishments, with economic development opportunities.
