Lobster Mobile App to promote and connect Massachusetts lobster with buyers

(Boston, MA, TODAY) The City of Gloucester through its Gloucester Fresh Seafood marketing program, and the Massachusetts Lobstermen’s Association, will make finding delicious and sustainable lobster much easier. Today, the two leading seafood partners announced plans to develop a smartphone application that will promote, connect, and eventually trace Massachusetts lobster for buyers across the globe. The announcement was made the annual Gloucester Fresh reception taking place at Seafood Expo North America. 

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts attracts buyers annually interested in providing lobster to their commercial and hospitality customers. The City of Gloucester is the leading landing port for lobster in Massachusetts. 

“In its 5th year of the Gloucester Fresh Seafood program, the City of Gloucester is proud to announce this important collaboration with the Massachusetts Lobstermen’s Association,” said Gloucester Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken.   “The new mobile application will build even greater business opportunities for Massachusetts lobstermen and seafood companies. Thank you to Governor Baker and the Seaport Economic Council for their support of this program.”

The City of Gloucester and the Massachusetts Lobstermen’s Association will seek input from the lobstermen and Massachusetts seafood companies as they develop this new platform. 

The new mobile application will be developed with support from the Seaport Economic Council. The Gloucester Fresh campaign in is 5th year, will be specifically promoting Massachusetts and Gloucester Lobster in 2019.  Gloucester has gained both national and international market attention for the promotion of local underutilized species at previous Seafood Expo North America conferences. 

Gloucester Fresh supports “America’s oldest fishing port” by bringing new attention to the many fish markets available that supply local fresh seafood. The program helps local fishermen, some of whom are fifth and sixth generation, and markets that have a long tradition of providing quality fresh fish, shellfish and value-added seafood products.
